IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings fans get big setback, MS Dhoni ruled out for 2 weeks due to injury
MS Dhoni ruled out of initial IPL 2026 matches due to calf injury, dealing a big blow to Chennai Super Kings ahead of the season.
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Fans of Chennai Super Kings have received a major setback ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, as veteran player MS Dhoni has been ruled out of the initial matches due to a calf strain. The franchise confirmed the development on Saturday, March 28.
According to reports, Dhoni may miss the first four matches of the season. In his absence, wicketkeeping duties could be handled by Sanju Samson or Urvil Patel.
Matches Dhoni likely to miss:
March 30: Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings
April 3: Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings
April 5: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings
April 11: Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals
Dhoni’s absence could make the start of the season challenging for CSK, especially in terms of leadership and finishing ability. The team’s depth and strategy will be tested during this period.
It is worth noting that Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but has continued to play in the IPL. In the previous season, he played all 14 matches, scoring 196 runs at a strike rate of over 135. He also took on captaincy duties when Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined due to injury.
Even at 44, Dhoni remains one of the most influential players in the league. If he returns this season, he will be among the oldest Indian players to feature in the IPL. For now, CSK will have to begin their campaign without their biggest icon.
