IPL 2026 – Virat Kohli achieves another milestone, breaks record of Chris Gayle
Virat Kohli breaks Chris Gayle’s record for most century partnerships in T20 cricket during IPL 2026 clash between RCB and Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): In the 20th match of IPL 2026, Virat Kohli created history during the clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. Kohli played a brilliant knock and broke the record of Chris Gayle.
After losing the toss, RCB came out to bat first and got a strong start from Kohli and Phil Salt. The duo added 120 runs for the first wicket in just 10.5 overs. During this partnership, Kohli surpassed Gayle’s record to become the batter with the most century partnerships in T20 cricket.
With this match, Kohli reached 47 century partnerships in T20s, overtaking Gayle’s previous record of 46. Babar Azam is also jointly placed second with 46 such partnerships.
The 120-run opening stand between Kohli and Salt is also the second-highest opening partnership for RCB in IPL history. The highest remains the 148-run partnership between Kohli and Faf du Plessis in 2023.
Phil Salt played an explosive innings, scoring 78 runs off 36 balls with a strike rate of 216, including 6 fours and 6 sixes.
For this match, RCB made one change by replacing Josh Hazlewood with Jacob Duffy. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians made two changes, bringing back Mitchell Santner in place of Allah Ghazanfar and including Mayank Markande instead of Deepak Chahar as an extra spinner.
