New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The deteriorating health of Imran Khan, the great former captain who led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 World Cup and the former Prime Minister of the country, has raised concerns in the entire cricket world. He has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since his arrest in Lahore in 2023. Now, 14 former captains of the world, including Indian legends Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, have openly raised their voices for his help. All these cricket legends have written a joint email to the Pakistani government, expressing deep concern over Imran Khan's condition and appealing for humane treatment for him.

Imran Khan reminded the Pakistani government of his status in an email.

In an email sent to the Pakistani government, the former captains emphasized that Imran Khan is one of the best players not only in Pakistan but in world cricket. The letter reminded the government that Pakistan became world champions in 1992 under Imran Khan's able leadership and that his contribution to the development of cricket in the country is incomparable. These veterans expressed deep disappointment and concern over the deteriorating health of Imran Khan, who has been in jail for nearly 1,000 days on charges of various alleged scams.

Three major demands placed before Imran Khan

All 14 former captains, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, have placed three major demands before the Pakistani government in favor of Imran Khan. In their first demand, they clearly stated that Imran Khan should be provided with immediate, better treatment and be given the right to receive healthcare from specialist doctors of his choice. In their second demand, the veterans have stated that he should be held in prison in a humane and dignified manner, in accordance with international standards, and be allowed to meet with his family members and friends. The third and most important demand is to ensure that Imran Khan has a fair and transparent opportunity to fight his legal battle.

These great cricketers also supported Imran Khan

In addition to Indian legends like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, several other prominent and respected names in the cricketing world have come forward in support of Imran Khan. Those who wrote this shared email include England's Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, and Mike Brearley, Australia's Allan Border, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Kim Hughes, Steve Waugh, and Belinda Clark, and West Indies legend Clive Lloyd. They unanimously urged the Pakistani government to address this sensitive matter immediately.
