SA20: In rain-hit match, MI Cape Town defeat Joburg Super Kings by 4 wickets

Cape Town (The Uttam Hindu): In the SA20 League, MI Cape Town registered a four-wicket win over Joburg Super Kings in an exciting match played on Tuesday. Due to rain interruption, the match was reduced to 12 overs per side instead of the full 20 overs. MI Cape Town won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Batting first, Joburg Super Kings scored 123 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 12 overs. Captain Faf du Plessis top-scored with 44 runs off 21 balls, while Matthew de Villiers made 21 off 15 balls. James Vince contributed 15 runs and Shubham Ranjane added 12. For MI Cape Town, Corbin Bosch picked up three wickets for 24 runs in three overs, while skipper Rashid Khan claimed two wickets for 23 runs. Kagiso Rabada and George Linde took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, MI Cape Town reached 128 runs for the loss of six wickets in 11.2 overs to seal the victory by four wickets. Rassie van der Dussen played a crucial knock of 35 runs off 24 balls, hitting three sixes. Nicholas Pooran smashed 33 runs off just 15 balls with five sixes, while Jason Smith scored a quick 22 off seven balls with three sixes.

For Joburg Super Kings, Nandre Burger took two wickets, while Akeal Hosein, Richard Gleeson and Wiaan Mulder picked up one wicket each. Nicholas Pooran was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.

With this win, MI Cape Town ended their losing streak. This was their first victory in six matches this season, after suffering four defeats and one no-result. Despite the win, MI Cape Town remain at the bottom of the points table in sixth place. Sunrisers Eastern Cape are at the top, followed by Joburg Super Kings in second, Paarl Royals in third, Durban Super Giants in fourth and Pretoria Capitals in fifth position.
