Shameful act by Pakistani player in T20 World Cup, misbehaves with female staff
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Pakistan cricket team had a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, failing to advance beyond the Super-8 stage. After exiting the tournament, the team returned home, but a new report has further tarnished their reputation.
According to reports, while staying at a hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka, a Pakistani player allegedly misbehaved with a female hotel staff member. The incident occurred just before Pakistan’s last Super-8 match against the host team, Sri Lanka. Following the incident, the team manager Naveed Cheema fined the player.
Details of the incident
Telecom Asia Sport reported: “Before Pakistan’s last Super-8 match against Sri Lanka, a player from the Pakistan World Cup team misbehaved with a female housekeeping staff member.” The staff called for help, and other hotel staff intervened to protect her. The team manager, Naveed Cheema, was informed of the incident. While the hotel’s top management wanted strict action, Cheema issued an apology on behalf of the player and imposed a fine for the misconduct. The player may also be summoned before the Pakistan Cricket Board disciplinary committee and could face further penalties.
History of misconduct by Pakistani players on tours
Pakistani players and backroom staff have a history of inappropriate behavior on tours. Last year, young batsman Haider Ali was arrested by Manchester police during the Pakistan Shaheen tour of England over allegations involving a girl. He was later released due to lack of evidence.
Similarly, Pakistan team masseur Malang Ali was reportedly involved in misconduct with a female staff member during a previous tour in Malaysia and was fined for the incident.
