T20 World Cup: Records made in India vs USA match, India creates history with 9 consecutive wins
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India started the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on a winning note, defeating the USA by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. However, the victory wasn't easy for India, and the team appeared to be in trouble for some time during the match. Captain Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant unbeaten 84 and last-minute replacement Mohammed Siraj's excellent bowling (3/29) helped India win their first match of the domestic tournament.
India was already under pressure before the match, with all-rounder Harshit Rana ruled out due to injury and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah unable to play due to illness. Batting first, India started on a pitch that offered movement and grip. As a result, India lost 6 wickets for 77 runs. Shadley van Schalkwyk bowled well for the USA, and India's total seemed low.
But then captain Suryakumar Yadav took charge. In his first T20 World Cup match as captain, Suryakumar Yadav led from the front. He played all directions, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes to score an unbeaten 84 off 49 balls. Along with Axar Patel, he steadied the innings, taking India to a respectable 161/9.
Mohammed Siraj then strengthened the team with two early wickets. He was well supported by Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel, who each took two wickets. The USA lost three wickets for 13 runs. However, Sanjay Krishnamurthy and Milind Kumar made the match exciting for a while with a 58-run partnership.
Krishnamurthy (37 runs) and Shubham Ranjane (37 runs) put up some fight, but India's experienced bowlers eventually took complete control of the match. Siraj and Arshdeep took another wicket in the final overs, restricting the USA to 132/9. Thus, India secured a hard-earned victory.
