Wide ball in Super Over puts Bangladesh in the final as India crash out in thriller

Doha (The Uttam Hindu) – The first semi-final of the Asia Cup Men's Rising Stars was played between India and Bangladesh on Friday. In a thrilling match, Bangladesh defeated India in the Super Over to advance to the final.


India batted first in the Super Over and lost the wickets of Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma on the first two balls. According to the rules, the innings ends with the loss of two wickets. Bangladesh, therefore, needed just one run to win. Bangladesh also lost their first wicket on the first ball of the innings, bowled by Suyash Sharma. However, by scoring the required one run, Bangladesh secured a place in the final.


In the match played at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha, Bangladesh A had set a target of 195 runs for India A to win. The Indian team could also score 194 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs and the match was tied. In the last over, the Indian team had to score 16 runs to win and 4 runs had to be scored in the last 2 balls. Ashutosh Sharma was bowled by Rakibul Hasan on the fifth ball of the last over. After this, new batsman Harsh Dubey had to score 4 runs in the last ball, but could only score 3 runs and the match was tied.


Indian openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya gave the Indian team a blistering start, adding 53 runs for the first wicket in 3.4 overs. Vaibhav scored 38 runs in just 15 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours. After Vaibhav's wicket fell, the run rate slowed down. Priyansh Arya was the third wicket to be dismissed after scoring 44 runs in 23 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 4 fours. At the time of Priyansh's wicket falling, the team's score was 98 runs in 9.3 overs. Captain Jitesh Sharma scored 33 runs in 23 balls. Nehal Wadhera remained unbeaten on 32 runs in 29 balls. Ashutosh Sharma scored 13 runs in 6 balls.


Earlier, Indian team captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 194 runs for 6 wickets.

For Bangladesh, opener Habibur Rahman Sohan scored 65 runs in 46 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 3 fours. Apart from this, SM Mehrub played an unbeaten inning of 48 runs in 18 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 1 four. Bangladesh scored 64 runs in the last 22 balls of the innings. For India, Gurjapneet Singh took 2 wickets. Harsh Dubey, Suyash Sharma, Ramandeep Singh and Naman Dhir got 1 wicket each.
