From struggle to glory: Amanjot Kaur's World Cup triumph, thanks to father's unwavering support
Mohali (The Uttam Hindu): Women's World Cup 2025 winner Amanjot Kaur had to struggle a lot to reach this milestone. There was a time when Amanjot could barely afford to buy a cricket kit. However, she had her father's support every step of the way.
India won the Women's World Cup 2025 final against South Africa on Sunday. Amanjot Kaur scored 12 runs off 14 balls with one four. Although she went wicketless despite conceding 34 runs in her four overs, she played a crucial role in dismissing South African captain Laura Wolvaardt and running out Tajmin Brits.
Speaking to IANS on Team India's victory against South Africa in the Women's ODI World Cup final, Amanjot Kaur's sister Kamaljot Kaur said, "Whenever we talk, Amanjot seems very confident. During the final, we wanted Laura Wolvaardt to get out early, but she scored a century. In the end, it was Amanjot who took the catch."
Kamaljot Kaur, recalling her sister's struggle, said, "We have witnessed Amanjot's journey. Our dream was to see her play in the World Cup. Finally, India won the title. We have seen her rise from domestic to international level. Cricket kit was very expensive. We struggled a lot to buy it. Our father was very supportive. It was his responsibility to drop us off at school and pick us up again. We have seen that dreams do come true." In the title match played at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, India, batting first, scored 298 for 7. In response, the South African team was bowled out for just 246 in 45.3 overs. This is the Indian women's cricket team's first World Cup title.
