Bad News For Cricket Lovers: Highly Anticipated India-Pakistan Match in WCL 2025 Cancelled
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The much-awaited match of the World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL) between India Champions and Pakistan Champions has been cancelled. This match was to be played on Sunday at 9 pm Indian time at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, but some players flatly refused to play in this match.
WCL issued a statement regarding this match and wrote, "We at WCL have always loved cricket. Our sole purpose has been to give happy and memorable moments to sports lovers. When we came to know that this year Pakistan's hockey team is coming to India, and recently there are matches between the two countries in other sports including India-Pakistan volleyball competition, we thought that by organizing a match between India and Pakistan in WCL, a positive memory can be given to the people, but in the same process we may have inadvertently hurt the feelings of many people."
The statement further said, "We have inadvertently made the great cricketers of India uncomfortable who have made the country proud. That is why, we have decided to cancel the match between India and Pakistan. We apologize if our action hurt anyone's feelings. Hope you will understand our feelings."
Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan had announced his withdrawal from the India-Pakistan match late on Saturday night.
Shikhar Dhawan shared a screenshot of an email on X and wrote, "I still stand by the step I took on May 11. My country is everything to me, and nothing is greater than my country. Jai Hind!"
The screenshot of the email posted by Dhawan reads, “This letter is to formally reconfirm and remind that Shikhar Dhawan will not be participating in any match against the Pakistan team in the upcoming WCL League. This decision was already conveyed during our discussion on call and WhatsApp on 11 May 2025. Keeping in mind the geopolitical situation and prevailing tension between India and Pakistan, Dhawan and his team have taken this decision after careful consideration.”
It is noteworthy that on April 22, a terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. The Resistance Front took responsibility for this attack. After this, India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan through 'Operation Sindoor'.
