Militants attack a police commando camp in Assam's Tinsukia district, firing rocket launchers and grenades, injuring four soldiers
Tinsukia (The Uttam Hindu): A major and horrific militant attack took place in Assam's Tinsukia district on Sunday. The militants targeted a police commando camp and launched a barrage of grenades and mortars. Four soldiers were reportedly injured in this fierce and sudden attack. According to initial information, this daring incident is suspected to have been carried out by ULFA militants. This massive midnight attack has created an atmosphere of panic in the entire area.
The explosions continued for 20 minutes, and 5 RPGs were fired
According to eyewitnesses and officials present in the camp, this horrific game of death started at around 2 am on Saturday night and continued for 20 minutes continuously. Describing the horrific scene, an official of the camp said that at 2.01 am he heard the first loud explosion, after which the entire area was shaken by several explosions one after the other. It is being told that the militants used mortars and RPGs extensively. According to officials, at least five RPG shells were fired at the camp, out of which four shells reportedly exploded directly inside the camp. Immediately after these loud explosions, the militants also started heavy firing.
This sensitive camp is located on the Assam-Arunachal border
According to reports, this police commando camp is located in a highly sensitive area. This major attack occurred near the 10-mile area under the Jagun outpost of the Lekhapani police station. This area is very close to the border between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Being a border area and densely forested, this region has always been considered extremely important and sensitive from a security perspective, which the militants took advantage of to carry out this major attack in the dark.
Treatment of the injured is going on in the camp itself, high alert in Upper Assam
The four commandos injured in this daring attack are currently being treated by a medical team inside the camp. However, it is not yet officially clear how serious the injuries were. Upon receiving information about the attack, a special team of senior police officers led by Tinsukia Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mayank Kumar Jha immediately reached the spot. The administration has not yet released a detailed statement on the total casualties. However, following this major militant attack, security has been tightened and a high alert has been declared in the entire Tinsukia district and other parts of Upper Assam.
