ATS interrogates NRI for hours over Google Glass incident at Kashi Vishwanath temple
Varanasi (The Uttam Hindu): A major and high-tech breach has occurred in the security of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, which is always on alert for terrorist threats. An NRI (Non-Resident Indian) wearing glasses equipped with a "spy" camera, similar to Google Glass, managed to gain access to the temple complex. Security personnel apprehended him while he was taking photographs of his mother near the main temple, causing a stir.
According to sources, the NRI had come to visit Baba Vishwanath with his family. He passed through all security checkpoints and entered with Google Glass, making it nearly impossible to detect at first glance. When he started taking photographs near the main temple, a security guard noticed him and he was immediately detained.
Given the seriousness of the matter, the local police, along with the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and other intelligence agencies, interrogated him for hours. However, after finding no suspicious activity or ulterior motives, he was later released with a warning. This incident is being considered a major security lapse, and security personnel deployed at that entrance have been issued strict instructions.
Google Glass is a smartglasses made by Google that resembles regular glasses. It contains a small camera, a display, and internet connectivity, allowing the wearer to take photos and record videos that cannot be remotely captured.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, former international cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara also visited the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. He explained that the last time he visited the temple was in 2022, after scoring a century against Bangladesh, and his wish was fulfilled.
