Dowry horror: Bengaluru software engineer's tragic end, husband accused of murder

Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Karnataka's capital Bengaluru. In the Soladevanahalli area, 35-year-old former software engineer P. Sushma allegedly ended her life after being fed up with dowry harassment and daily domestic quarrels. Following this tragic incident, the police took swift action and arrested the deceased's husband, Puneet Kumar. Sushma's father is a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the police department, and based on his complaint, a sensational case of dowry murder has been registered against Puneet.

10 lakh in cash and a huge amount of gold were given at the wedding

Sushma and Puneet were married with great pomp and show about five years ago, and they have a four-year-old son. Sushma previously worked as a software engineer at a prestigious company, but left her job a few years ago. Sushma's father, T.D. Prabhakaramurthy, said he had given his daughter 10 lakh rupees in cash and a large amount of gold jewelry as dowry. Sushma also bought a car with her earnings. Despite this, Puneet and his mother, Kalpana, remained undeterred and continued to harass Sushma, demanding more dowry.

The last and biggest controversy was about cooking

Initial police investigations have revealed that for the past few months, the household had been witnessing frequent, violent fights over trivial matters. On Monday, just a day before this horrific incident, Sushma and her mother-in-law, Kalpana, had a heated argument over cooking. Her parents told police that her mother-in-law frequently prevented her from cooking in the kitchen and subjected her to severe mental harassment over seemingly trivial matters, causing her to experience severe stress.

Father's allegation: After the murder, the body was hanged

In this entire case, Sushma's father has made a very serious and shocking allegation in his police complaint. He clearly states that he strongly suspects that his daughter Sushma's in-laws first brutally murdered her and then hanged her body to make it appear like a suicide. Meanwhile, the police say that while prima facie it appears to be a suicide, the true cause of death will only be revealed after the post-mortem report is released and a detailed investigation is completed.
