Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a tough stand on the massive uproar and chaos that erupted at football legend Lionel Messi's concert. The Chief Minister has accepted the resignation of Sports Minister Arup Biswas and will now personally take charge of the Sports Ministry. Biswas had offered to resign on Tuesday, citing the impartiality of the investigation into the embarrassment at the event, a decision the Chief Minister has now approved.

Trinamool Congress state general secretary Kunal Ghosh confirmed the acceptance of Arup Biswas's resignation in a social media post. Biswas reportedly stated in his letter to the Chief Minister that an investigation into the irregularities at Messi's event was underway, and that he wished to step down to avoid questioning the investigation process. State politics was abuzz with activity following the news of his resignation.

In fact, the root of this entire controversy lies in the recent Lionel Messi concert in Kolkata, which was marred by gross mismanagement. Fans were furious when they couldn't even get a proper glimpse of Messi despite purchasing expensive tickets, ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 rupees. Spectators alleged that the organizers had placed their relatives and acquaintances so close to Messi that the view of ordinary fans was completely blocked. Feeling betrayed, angry fans began throwing bottles and chairs in the stadium, tarnishing the state's image internationally.

The government has not only accepted the minister's resignation in this matter, but has also taken action against administrative officials. The event's main organizer, Satadru Dutta, has been arrested on charges of mismanagement and sent to 14 days of police custody. Meanwhile, show-cause notices have been issued to DGP Rajeev Kumar, Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh Kumar, and Principal Secretary of the Sports Department Rajesh Kumar Sinha for negligence in security arrangements. Additionally, departmental action has been initiated against DCP Anish Sarkar.
