New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): An eerie mourning descended on Salem, Tamil Nadu on Friday after a man tragically died during a rally attended by actor-turned-politician and Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay. Salem police officials confirmed that the man, who was present in the crowd during the rally, suffered a heart attack and died. The incident occurred while actor Vijay was addressing the public from the stage.

The deceased was a silversmith, survived by his wife and child

According to police, the deceased was a resident of the Sevvaipattai area of Salem. He was a laborer by profession and worked in silversmithing. According to reports, he was a supporter of Vijay and had come to attend the public meeting as a spectator. While listening to the speech, he suddenly collapsed. Onlookers and security personnel rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased is survived by his wife and a child. Police have registered a case and begun investigating the incident.

Memories of Karur accident revived

This incident in Salem has once again raised questions about security and crowd management at Vijay's rallies. It's worth noting that a few months ago, a major accident occurred during actor Vijay's rally in Karur. According to reports, approximately 40 people lost their lives in the stampede. The deaths in Salem have brought back memories of that tragedy.

Vijay's controversial statement - 'Take money from others, vote for CT'

Beyond the tragic incident at the rally, Vijay's political speech also generated considerable attention. The TVK chief appealed to voters to vote for his party's election symbol, the Whistle, in the upcoming state assembly elections. During this, he also made a controversial appeal to the public. Vijay told voters not to refuse money offered by other parties; they should accept it, but vote for TVK.

Direct target on DMK and AIADMK

Addressing the public in Tamil, Vijaya launched a scathing attack on both major parties in the state—the ruling DMK and the main opposition AIADMK. Without naming any names, he took a jab at coalition politics. "We are not those who depend on allies," Vijaya said. Attacking the DMK, he said that for them, alliances are only about winning elections, while they govern and do everything else on their own.
