Truck rams autos, 5 killed in gruesome accident near Jagannath Puri

Agra (The Uttam Hindu): Saturday in Agra, Uttar Pradesh witnessed a very painful accident. Here in Khandauli police station area, the havoc of high speed was seen, which snatched away the happiness of happy families. An uncontrolled truck crushed two autos full of devotees returning from Jagannath Puri after darshan. Five people died on the spot in this horrific accident, while many people were seriously injured. The speed of the truck is said to be around 100 kilometers per hour. The collision was so strong that the autos were shattered into pieces and they jumped in the air and fell far away.

All the friends were returning after visiting Jagannath Puri

According to information received from the police, this accident took place on Jaleswar Road. The deceased include Vijay Singh alias Bijo Gautam, Laxmi Chand, Raghuveer, Birla Mistry, residents of Bhadau village of Dhadyu police station in Hathras district, and auto driver Shahid, resident of Shahganj, Agra. All these eight friends had gone to visit Jagannath Puri Dham on January 20. On Saturday itself, they reached Agra Cantt railway station via Jabalpur. From there, they had booked two autos to go to their respective villages. During the journey, a companion named Ramdutt got down on the way to buy medicine, due to which he escaped becoming a victim of this accident.

Drunk driver wreaks havoc at 100 mph

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred near Nagla Chandan. The truck coming from the front was moving at a very high speed and the driver was in an inebriated state. He was driving the truck at a speed of around 100 km/h (100 mph). He first hit an auto-rickshaw and then, losing control, hit another auto-rickshaw. Upon collision, both auto-rickshaws hit a roadside tree and then overturned into a ditch. The auto-rickshaws were completely damaged. Five people lost their lives in the accident, while Dhanprasad and Vijay were seriously injured. Another person has reportedly died during treatment at the hospital.

The crowd erupted in anger and beat up the fleeing driver

Immediately after the accident, the truck driver attempted to flee the scene, but the people gathered nearby, hearing the screams, chased him down and caught him. The angry crowd beat him severely. Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene, rescued the driver from the crowd, and took him into custody. Police took possession of all the bodies, identified them, and informed their families of the tragic news. Police are investigating the incident, and the injured are receiving treatment.
