Children Under 16 No Longer Allowed to Create YouTube Accounts
Melbourne (The Uttam Hindu) – The increasing use of social media is proving to be dangerous for children. That is why parents are more worried about their children. In view of this concern, the Australian government has taken a big decision. The Australian government has banned the use of YouTube for children under 16 years of age. Earlier, the government has already banned other social media platforms TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X and Snapchat for children under 16 years of age.
Children under the age of 16 will be able to watch videos on YouTube, but will not be able to create their own account. This means that they will not be able to upload any video, comment, and also will not be able to interact with anyone. It will be the responsibility of social media platforms to ensure that children of this age are not able to create an account on the platform. Failure to do so may result in a fine of up to 50 million Australian dollars i.e. about Rs 282.34 crore on the platforms. However, platform users will not have to upload documents like passport and driving license to prove their age. Online gaming, messaging, education and health apps have been excluded from this ban. These have been considered less harmful for children.
