Body of Missing Army Jawan Found in Anantnag, J&K; Search Continues for Second Soldier
Anantnag (The Uttam Hindu) – The Indian Army continues an extensive search operation in Anantnag district for two soldiers who went missing during an anti-terror operation. The body of one soldier was recovered from the dense forests of Godole, Kokernag, while the search for the second soldier is still underway.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the recovered soldier may have succumbed to hypothermia due to extreme cold in the region. Army sources confirmed that the soldier had his service weapon and essential equipment, indicating he was actively involved in the operation.
The operation was launched after contact with the two soldiers was lost in upper areas of South Kashmir’s Kokernag, which recently experienced heavy snowfall and plunging temperatures. Multiple search teams, helicopters, and drones are being deployed to locate the missing soldier.
The forests of Godole have witnessed recent terrorist activity, prompting the ongoing anti-terror mission. This area has a grim history; in 2023, a major encounter here resulted in the deaths of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Donchak, and Police Superintendent Humayun Muzammil. Security agencies believe that Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba militants have previously used these forests as hideouts.
Despite attempts by terrorist groups to exploit the harsh weather and fog in Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian Army has successfully thwarted infiltration attempts, maintaining vigilance in the region.
