Bulandshahr Violence: 38 Accused Sentenced, 5 Get Life Imprisonment, 33 Get 7 Years

Bulandshahr (The Uttam Hindu): The court verdict has come after seven years in the much talked about Syana violence case of Bulandshahr. The court of Justice Gopal of Additional Sessions Court-12 (ADJ-12) on Friday convicted 38 accused involved in Syana violence and announced the punishment.

The ADG 12 court has sentenced five convicts in this case to life imprisonment for the murder of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, while the remaining 33 convicts have been sentenced to seven years in jail for rioting, attempt to murder (section 307), arson and other serious sections. Defense lawyer Ashok Dagar told IANS, "Five convicts have been convicted of murder under IPC section 302 and sentenced to life imprisonment. The rest have been sentenced to seven years under sections 307, 436, 332, and 353. The court has ordered compensation to the wife of the deceased Subodh Kumar."

Special Public Prosecutor Yashpal Singh expressed dissatisfaction over this decision and said that he will appeal in the High Court. Talking to the media, he said, "The court has given its verdict in the Syana violence case. Five accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Also, 33 accused have been sentenced to 7 years. In this case, the court has also imposed a fine of 25 thousand rupees under 302. Also, the court has ordered to give the compensation amount to the wife of the deceased." He said, "I am the defense counsel in this case and was fighting the case on behalf of about 22 people. We will first analyze this case and after that we will challenge the court's order in the High Court."

Let us tell you that this incident is of 3 December 2018. Violence broke out after a rumour of cow remains being found in Chingrawathi village of Syana, in which the angry mob set the Chingrawathi police post on fire. During the violence, the then Syana police station in-charge Subodh Kumar Singh and youth Sumit Kumar were killed.
