Cloudburst Hits Jammu: 4 Dead in Doda, Kishtwar; Highway Swept Away
Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rains and cloudbursts have caused massive destruction in Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir. Four people have died due to cloudburst in Doda and Kishtwar districts, while 8 people are trapped in flood waters in Udhampur. Due to continuous rains, a large part of National Highway 244 (NH 244) has been washed away, due to which many areas have been cut off and life has been disrupted.
Four people have been confirmed dead after being hit by debris and strong currents following a cloudburst in Doda district. Meanwhile, Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh said that it has been raining continuously in the district for the last three days. People have been evacuated from areas situated on the banks of the Chenab river to safer places. He said that due to the rain, NH 244 has been completely washed away and a private health center has also been damaged. Floods have also been reported in the Charwa area of Bhalesha, although there is no report of any casualties there.
Cloudburst was also reported in Lalon Gala area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district. Due to this, there was a sudden flood in Baggan Nallah in which 8 people who had gone to graze cattle got stuck in the middle. SHO Basantgarh, Rabin Chalotra confirmed that all the 8 people are stuck at a safe high place in the middle of the drain and a team from Lodra police station has been sent to the spot for rescue.
At the same time, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said that his office is constantly monitoring the situation and is taking updates from the administration.
