India Joins Forces with Japan for Chandrayaan-5 Mission: A Historic Space Collaboration

Tokyo (The Uttam Hindu): India has taken its ambitious lunar mission to new heights by partnering with Japan for the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this historic collaboration on Friday in Tokyo. The mission will be jointly conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The crucial announcement was made by PM Modi during a joint press briefing with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, following bilateral talks. The two countries also unveiled a detailed 10-year roadmap for their strategic partnership, which includes Japan’s investment of 10 trillion yen (approximately ₹5.25 lakh crore) in India.

PM Modi emphasized the significance of the space collaboration, saying, “We welcome the collaboration between ISRO and JAXA for the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Our active participation has now transcended the boundaries of Earth and will symbolize human progress in space.”

During his visit to Japan, PM Modi described his talks with PM Ishiba as "productive and purposeful." He added, “We have charted a strong roadmap for cooperation over the next decade. Our 10-year plan includes collaboration in various sectors, including investment, innovation, and economic security.”

The Prime Minister also agreed that the partnership between the two largest economies and vibrant democracies, India and Japan, is vital not just for both nations, but for global peace and stability. Both leaders emphasized laying the foundation for a “new and golden chapter” in their partnership, enhancing ties that span from defense to space and economics.

This announcement provides a strategic boost to India-Japan relations, ushering in a new era of collaboration and growth.
