Cloudburst Triggers Tragedy in Ramban, Jammu; 3 Dead, 2 Missing as Villages Devastated
Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): The Jammu division has once again been hit by a natural disaster. On Saturday morning, a cloudburst struck the Rajgarh area of Ramban district, leaving at least three people dead and two others missing. Rescue teams and local administration officials rushed to the spot to carry out relief and recovery operations.
According to initial reports, the cloudburst triggered a sudden surge of water that swept through several villages in the area. The heavy flow destroyed multiple houses, with some completely washed away. Authorities confirmed that three bodies have so far been recovered, while search operations are underway to locate the missing persons.
To support affected families, temporary relief camps have been established, providing food, drinking water, shelter, and basic medical care. Officials assured that immediate relief measures are being taken, and more teams will be deployed if the situation worsens.
This incident comes amid a week of extreme weather in Jammu division. Continuous heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides have wreaked havoc across the region, leaving behind widespread destruction. Official data suggests that over 36 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the past few days.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine area was also hit by a landslide earlier this week, causing significant loss of life and property. Districts including Reasi, Doda, Samba, Kathua, and parts of Jammu have reported landslides, overflowing rivers, and flood-like situations, with nine deaths recorded in Reasi and Doda alone.
The water level in rivers and streams across the division remains dangerously high, prompting authorities to issue warnings. Locals living near rivers and vulnerable slopes have been urged to remain alert and move to safer locations if required.
