New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan has won the Vice Presidential election with 452 votes, securing a clear majority. The election saw a contest between Radhakrishnan and opposition candidate B Sudarshan Reddy, with the NDA holding a significant lead.

Here's a breakdown of the support for each candidate:

  NDA Candidate: CP Radhakrishnan

  Total Support: 427 MPs

  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 240 Lok Sabha MPs, around 100 Rajya Sabha MPs

 

Other NDA Allies:

1. Telugu Desam Party (TDP): 16 Lok Sabha MPs, 2 Rajya Sabha MPs

2. Janata Dal (United): 12 Lok Sabha MPs, 4 Rajya Sabha MPs

3. Shiv Sena (Shinde faction): 7 Lok Sabha MPs, 3 Rajya Sabha MPs

  Other smaller allies: Apna Dal, AGP, AJSU, HAM(S), Ajit Pawar's NCP faction, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), United People's Party (UPP), and select independents

 

Opposition Candidate: B Sudarshan Reddy

  Total Support: 324 MPs

  Indian National Congress (INC): 99 Lok Sabha MPs, 27 Rajya Sabha MPs

  Other INDIA Bloc Allies:

1. Samajwadi Party (SP): 37 Lok Sabha MPs, 4 Rajya Sabha MPs

2. Trinamool Congress (TMC): 29 Lok Sabha MPs, 13 Rajya Sabha MPs

3. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK): 22 Lok Sabha MPs, 10 Rajya Sabha MPs

4. Other smaller allies: VCK, IUML, RSP and others

The NDA's numerical advantage and support from YSR Congress ensured Radhakrishnan's victory. The opposition's candidate, Sudarshan Reddy, contested the election on an ideological platform, but ultimately lost due to the NDA's significant majority.
