Dream Sports, MPL, Zupee Halt Paid Games After Government’s Crackdown on Real Money Gaming
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India’s biggest real money gaming (RMG) companies including Dream Sports, Gameskraft, Mobile Premier League (MPL), and Zupee have suspended all money-based games on their platforms following the government’s passage of the “Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025.”
The new legislation imposes a complete ban on online games involving monetary stakes, where players risk money in the hope of financial gain. Importantly, the Bill also gives authorities the power to conduct searches and arrest individuals without a warrant if violations are suspected.
Dream Sports announced that it has suspended all “pay-to-play” contests on its newly launched apps, Dream Pix and Dream Play, citing compliance with the new law. The company reassured users that their account balances remain safe and can be withdrawn via the Dream11 app.
Board games platform Zupee also confirmed that it has halted all paid gaming formats, but clarified that popular free games like Ludo Supreme, Ludo Turbo, Snakes & Ladders, and Trump Card Mania will continue to remain available for players.
Similarly, MPL and Gameskraft suspended their real-money gaming offerings and assured users that pending balances can be withdrawn smoothly.
The government introduced the Online Gaming Bill 2025 to address the growing concerns over addiction, financial losses, and crimes linked to real money gaming. The law marks a landmark shift in India’s online gaming landscape, effectively ending the booming RMG industry in its current form.
