Sonipat (The Uttam Hindu): A horrific road accident occurred just after midnight on Saturday on the Jammu-Katra Expressway near the Rukhi Toll Plaza in the Gohana area of Sonipat district. A speeding car collided head-on with a road roller parked for ongoing road construction, resulting in the deaths of four young men from Haryana’s Rohtak district.

The collision was so intense that the car was completely mangled. One of the passengers died on the spot, while three others—who were critically injured—succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Ankit, Lokesh, Deepankar, and Somvir, all residents of Ghilor village in Rohtak. Notably, Somvir was the son of senior Congress leader Balwan Ranga.

Eyewitnesses stated that the visibility was low at night, and there were inadequate warning signs or barricades around the road construction area. The speeding vehicle failed to notice the stationary road roller and crashed into it directly, leading to the devastating accident. Local residents immediately informed the police. The emergency response team arrived at the scene and, with the help of locals, extricated one dead body and three severely injured individuals from the wreckage. Despite being rushed to the hospital, all three later died.

Police have sent all four bodies for post-mortem and launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest that excessive speed and poor visibility contributed to the accident. Locals also blamed the lack of proper barricading and warning signs on the under-construction road for the tragedy. Police officials confirmed that the families of the victims have been notified, and a detailed probe is underway to determine if negligence by construction authorities played a role.
