Supreme Court Extends Interim Stay on Arrest of MP Minister Vijay Shah in Colonel Sofiya Qureshi Case
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard the case of Madhya Pradesh government minister Vijay Shah who made indecent remarks about Colonel Sophia Qureshi. The court has extended the interim stay on his arrest. Senior advocate Varun Thakur gave full information about this in a conversation with IANS. He told that the apex court gave instructions on two important points in this case. On the one hand, the court ordered to stop the hearing going on in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The court said that it is itself hearing this case. In such a situation, it is not appropriate for this case to remain pending in the High Court. On the other hand, the SIT was ordered to file the status report of the investigation of this case in the Supreme Court. Now the hearing of this case will be held in July.
Minister Vijay Shah, while addressing a program in Raikunda village of Mhow, made an indecent comment about Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who held a press conference on 'Operation Sindoor'. His statement caused a lot of uproar. Apart from this, the High Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter. After this, the minister approached the Supreme Court, but he was reprimanded there too. The court ordered the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. Pramod Verma IG Sagar Zone, Kalyan Chakraborty DIG SAF and Vahini Singh SP Dindori were included in this committee.
After the court's intervention, an FIR was also registered against the minister in this case. But, the court called this FIR insufficient and asked to register another FIR. After being criticized for his statement, the minister had said that he respects Colonel Sofia Qureshi a lot. He considers Colonel Sofia Qureshi as his sister more than his own sister. At the same time, other opposition parties including Congress demanded the resignation of the minister. They even said that the Mohan Yadav government of Madhya Pradesh should show Minister Shah the way out of the cabinet.
