Bangkok (The Uttam Hindu): A very surprising scene is being seen these days on Thai TV channels. Here, during live news broadcast, TV anchors are suddenly taking off their jackets and coats in front of the camera. At first glance, this scene may shock anyone, but its purpose is not to entertain the audience, but to warn the people of the country about a very serious danger and to give a strict message to save electricity. Actually, Thailand is currently standing on the verge of a severe fuel and energy crisis. According to top officials, the country now has only 95 days of energy reserves left, which has disturbed the sleep of the government and administration.

Anchors took off their jackets during a live show and gave a powerful message

In a video that has become a topic of discussion on social media and TV, three news anchors are seen taking off their jackets during a live program. They explained to the audience that if people wear light clothes instead of thick and heavy clothes, they will need to run the air conditioner (AC) less, thereby saving a huge amount of electricity. The anchors said on live TV that they too are taking off their jackets to present a practical example of saving energy to the country. They have appealed to the people that those who are used to running very cold ACs, should now set the temperature of the AC at 26 to 27 degrees Celsius as per the standard suggested by the government.

The government took strict measures, new rules were implemented in offices

To address this severe energy crisis, the Thai government has initiated several emergency measures. To reduce energy consumption, government employees have been ordered to work from home with immediate effect, although officials engaged in essential and emergency services have been exempted from this rule. All government offices have been strictly instructed to completely switch off lights and other electrical equipment unless necessary. Maintaining the air conditioner temperature at 26-27 degrees Celsius has been made mandatory. Employees have been advised to wear half-sleeved shirts or light clothing instead of heavy suits and ties to reduce the need for cooling in offices.

Request for help from America and Australia, special appeal to the public

To prevent a major blackout, the Thai government is now turning to other countries around the world. Energy Minister Attapol Rakpiboon has stated that the government is making war-like efforts to secure additional supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG). To avert this potential crisis, Thailand has also established emergency contacts with countries like the United States, Australia, and South Africa. The government is also urging the public and businesses to reduce energy consumption. The move by TV anchors to remove their jackets on live shows is an important part of a nationwide awareness campaign, with the clear message that small lifestyle changes can save the country from a major energy crisis.
