New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The time has come to turn dreams into reality. Harmanpreet Kaur's team has cherished the dream of winning the Women's ODI World Cup for years, now just a step away. When India's girls face South Africa in the final today at the DY Patil Stadium, their goal will be to become world champions for the first time.

The Indian team has reached the final of the ODI World Cup for the third time and is still in search of its first title. Australia in 2005 and England in 2017 had shattered the Indian team's dream. This time's final is special because this will be the first time when both Australia and England will not be in the title match. India and South Africa - both the teams are in the race for the title for the first time, which means this time women's cricket will get a new world champion.

In the semi-finals, India made history by defeating seven-time champions Australia. Jemimah Rodrigues' unbeaten 127 and Harmanpreet Kaur's 89 helped the team achieve the mammoth target of 339, the highest successful run chase in women's ODI cricket. After losing three consecutive matches in the league stage, Team India made a remarkable comeback to reach the final.

Harmanpreet Kaur said before the final, "We know the pain of defeat, now we want to feel the joy of victory. Hopefully, Sunday will be a special day for us. We've put in our hard work, and now we just have to give it our all in the final."

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt said, "Knockout matches are different. India are very confident after their win over Australia, but we will go all out and try to calm the Indian supporters."

If India succeeds in winning the title this time, it will be a milestone for women's cricket. Just as Kapil Dev's team gave Indian cricket a new identity by winning the World Cup in 1983, this victory can serve as an inspiration for the country's new generation of women.
