New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Rising tensions in West Asia and airspace restrictions have severely affected air travel, with the Civil Aviation Ministry warning that around 444 international flights could be cancelled on March 1. The situation follows recent military actions involving Iran, Israel and the United States, prompting authorities to review aviation preparedness. Officials stated that 410 domestic flights were already cancelled on February 28 due to restricted airspace over Iran and nearby regions, and further disruptions are expected.

To manage the situation, the government and aviation authorities have activated special arrangements for passengers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is coordinating closely with airlines to ensure safety and compliance with operational rules. Route diversions and special advisories have been issued at major airports, while senior officials have been deployed at terminals to assist travellers. A Passenger Assistance Control Room has also been set up to monitor and resolve passenger complaints quickly.

Meanwhile, Air India has cancelled several key international services due to the ongoing crisis. Flights connecting Delhi with major destinations such as London, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Frankfurt and Paris have been suspended, along with select services from Mumbai and Amritsar to London and New York. The cancellations have disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers, though authorities say complaints are being addressed on priority.
