Attack on bushehr nuclear power plant for third time, IAEA warns of serious consequences
Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant attacked for the third time; IAEA warns of serious consequences as Middle East tensions escalate.
Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization has reported that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was targeted once again late Friday night with projectiles. This marks the third such attack on the facility since the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel bloc began on February 28.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has issued a strong warning, stating that although no damage has been reported so far, repeated attacks on nuclear sites could lead to extremely serious consequences. There have been no reports of casualties, material damage, or technical disruption in the latest strike. Iranian authorities have blamed the United States and Israel for the attack.
According to the IAEA, Iran informed the agency about the incident. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed deep concern and urged maximum restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.
The agency is closely monitoring the situation, working with Iranian officials to verify safety measures and ensure that all nuclear material remains secure. The recent attacks highlight growing risks to nuclear and industrial facilities in conflict zones. While facilities such as the Khondab Heavy Water Plant and Khuzestan Steel Factory remain safe, experts warn that repeated targeting of radioactive sites could have severe consequences.
Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) and police reported that a missile launched from Iran killed a man aged around 60. The attack involved cluster munitions that struck multiple locations in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The victim, identified as a construction worker, was hit by shrapnel after the missile exploded nearby. Two other people sustained minor injuries in the incident.
