Blasts rock mosque in Jakarta's Kelapa Gading neighbourhood, multiple injuries reported
Jakarta(The Uttam Hindu): At least two loud blasts were heard around midday at a mosque within a navy compound in Jakarta's northern Kelapa Gading neighbourhood, leaving multiple people injured. The blasts occurred just as a sermon had started at the mosque located at SMA 27, a state high school.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with students and others rushing out of the mosque as gray smoke filled the air. Most victims suffered injuries from glass shards, with 20 students remaining in hospital care, three of them with serious injuries.
Police have deployed an anti-bomb squad to the scene and are investigating the cause of the blasts, which are believed to have originated from near the mosque's loudspeaker. Toy rifles and a toy gun were found near the mosque.
Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri has urged the public to avoid speculation about the incident, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
