‘Dam on Indus Means War’: Bilawal Bhutto Issues Fresh Threat After Asim Munir
Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): Former Pakistan Foreign Minister and Pakistan People's Party President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has warned India that if a dam is built on the Indus River or there is any change in the Indus Water Treaty, it could lead to war between India and Pakistan. His statement came a day after Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir gave a nuclear threat to India.
If India builds a dam on the Indus river, there will be war… After Asim Munir, now Bilawal Bhutto threatens : India adopted a tough stand against Pakistan after the death of 26 people in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. The central government suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960. Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that India will never restore this treaty now. This step of India has increased the restlessness in the government and political leadership of Pakistan.
During an event, Bilawal Bhutto said that diverting the water of the Indus river from Pakistan is a direct attack on the culture, history and civilization of Pakistan, especially the Sindh province. He alleged that India's water policy is aggressive and it can affect Pakistan's water supply.
Bilawal said that he has been raising this issue even during his foreign visits and this is a serious issue for Pakistan's security. He also said that the people of Sindh have always come forward to protect the Indus River and if India takes any aggressive step, the people of Pakistan are ready for war. He warned that in the event of war, Pakistan can regain control over all its six rivers.
