Deadly road accident in Indonesia, 15 killed and several injured as out-of-control bus overturns

Jakarta (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating road accident occurred early Monday morning in Semarang city of Central Java province, Indonesia, where at least 15 people were killed and 19 others injured after a bus overturned near the Krapyak toll exit intersection, local authorities confirmed.

According to the Semarang Search and Rescue Office, the high-speed bus went out of control, hit a road barrier, and overturned on the road. Head of the Semarang Search and Rescue Office, Budiono, said the rescue operation was extremely challenging as several victims were trapped inside the bus, and shattered glass blocked access.

Rescue teams had to create an entry point into the overturned bus and carefully extract the trapped passengers. Officials later confirmed that all victims were successfully rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

As reported by news agency Xinhua, the incident comes just days after another tragedy in Jakarta, where five people lost their lives in a house fire. Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency chief Isnawa Adji said the fire broke out in a residential house around 8:10 pm local time on Thursday and was brought under control by 11 pm with the help of 10 fire engines. The house was also being used as a warehouse for making accessories, and the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
