Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump is once again in the news for his tough stance. Trump is continuously using tariff policy to exert pressure at the global level. In this series, he has now announced to take strict action against the countries opposing America's stance on the Greenland issue. Trump says that a 10 percent import duty will be imposed on eight European countries that oppose American control over Greenland.

Trump imposes 10% tariffs on 8 European countries if they don't cooperate on Greenland issue, threatens 25% tariffs from June: According to Donald Trump, 10% tariff will be applicable on goods coming from these countries from February. He informed through social media that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Finland will be affected by this decision. The US President also warned that if there is no agreement on the "complete purchase" of Greenland, then this tariff will be increased to 25% from June 1. Trump clarified that these tariffs will remain in effect until a deal is reached on Greenland.

While Trump is exerting pressure through tariffs, protests against his stance have intensified. Large-scale demonstrations have erupted in Denmark and Greenland, with thousands taking to the streets. Protesters say Greenland's democratic system, citizens' rights, and self-determination are non-negotiable.

According to a recent survey, approximately 85 percent of Greenlanders oppose joining the United States. Only 6 percent support US rule. Protest organizers say this struggle is not limited to Greenland, but concerns international law and all countries seeking to protect their dignity and rights.

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said President Trump has already made his priorities clear. He believes the acquisition of Greenland is in the US national security interest. According to Levitt, Trump's comments came after Denmark and Greenland rejected the possibility of annexation.
