Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Security agencies have been alarmed by the discovery of approximately 2.5 lakh rupees in counterfeit currency sent by Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, in the Amritsar border area.

According to reports, this is the first time such large-scale counterfeit Indian currency has been imported into India since the demonetization of November 2016. Previously, incidents of heroin and weapons smuggling into India by the ISI have been reported.

Intelligence sources say that with the aim of harming India's economy, Pakistan is preparing to print large quantities of fake Indian currency notes in the border areas, so that they can be circulated in the market along with real notes.

Security agencies have submitted a report to the Union Home Ministry regarding this serious matter. It is noteworthy that large consignments of IEDs, RDX, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), pistols, ammunition, and heroin have been smuggled into the Indian border from Pakistan in the past.

The BSF recovered the fake currency near the Gharinda area on Thursday night, following which security and vigilance have been increased in the area.
