Violence resurfaces in Bangladesh, Hindu man beaten and poisoned to death
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – Incidents of targeting the Hindu community are continuing to emerge in Bangladesh. The latest incident occurred in Sunamganj district, where a Hindu man named Joy Mahapatra was murdered. The family alleges that he was first assaulted and then poisoned. Mahapatra, in critical condition, was admitted to the ICU of Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he died during treatment.
This incident comes just days after another recent case: Mithun Sarkar, a 25-year-old Hindu man, died after jumping into a canal to escape a mob chasing him on suspicion of theft.
Lynching of Dipu Chandra Das on Blasphemy Charges
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is witnessing a surge in violence against religious minorities. In a case of lynching on blasphemy charges, the police have arrested the main accused. This case is related to the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth who worked in a garment factory. According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Yasin Arafat, a former teacher. He is alleged to have played a key role in planning and executing the attack. 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was murdered on December 18 in Mymensingh district.
It is alleged that factory supervisors first pressured Deepu to resign, then dragged him out of the workplace and handed him over to an angry local mob. Police have intensified the investigation and are investigating the role of other suspects. These incidents have raised serious concerns among human rights organizations and minority communities.
