India–US trade deal: Trump official reveals deadline for finalisation
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Trade deal talks between India and the United States are progressing. A senior US administration official has indicated that recent discussions between the two countries have been positive and progress is being made towards a trade agreement.
Speaking to reporters, the official confirmed that Washington is working on a reciprocal trade agreement with New Delhi. Discussions are also underway to address concerns raised by India about its purchase of Russian oil. He said positive progress has been made on several issues between the two sides in recent times.
According to the official, the talks could yield concrete results by the end of this year. He explained that the US is working with India in parallel on two issues—first, a reciprocal trade agreement related to tariffs and market access, and second, market reforms related to Russian oil imports.
He said the situation is better than before, but work remains ongoing on many aspects. Trade between the United States and India is projected to reach approximately US$190 billion in 2024. Both countries have committed to further expanding bilateral commerce.
