‘Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Are Integral Parts of India’… India’s Strong Rebuttal to Pakistan at UNSC
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India once again strongly countered Pakistan at the United Nations, rejecting its claims on Jammu and Kashmir during a discussion at the UN Security Council (UNSC). Pakistan attempted to speak about peace while raising the Kashmir issue, but India responded firmly. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, clearly stated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inseparable Union Territories of India. He said they were part of India in the past and will always remain so.
India also explained the reasons behind suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and accused Pakistan of being a global hub of terrorism. Parvathaneni said that India honoured the Indus Waters Treaty in good faith for over 65 years, but during this period Pakistan imposed three wars on India and carried out thousands of terrorist attacks, violating the spirit of the agreement.
He added that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has claimed the lives of thousands of Indian citizens. Referring to the April terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, he said that 26 people, including a foreign national, were killed. India made it clear that the decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty was taken because Pakistan continues to support terrorism, and the treaty will remain suspended until terrorism originating from Pakistani soil is completely eliminated.
India also highlighted Pakistan’s internal situation at the UN, stating that democracy is being systematically weakened there. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been jailed, his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been banned, and through the 27th Constitutional Amendment, lifetime protection has been granted to Army Chief Asim Munir, which India described as a form of constitutional coup.
