Lunar spectacle: Russia sees 4 'moons' in rare paraselenic effect, learn what exactly it is
Moscow (The Uttam Hindu): Recently, such an amazing astronomical event was seen in the sky of Russia, which has surprised people all over the world. There, not one, but four moons were seen shining in the darkness of the night. This sight can be clearly seen in a video going viral on social media, in which along with the real moon, three more bright spheres are visible on both sides of it. These spheres looked exactly like the real moon. Whoever saw this rare sight, could not believe his eyes for a moment and started capturing it in the camera.
This phenomenon is a play of ice particles and light
According to scientists, this is not a miracle but a rare astronomical effect, which is called 'Paraselene' in scientific language or 'Moon Dog' in common language. Actually, these days it is very cold in Russia, due to which the moisture in the sky freezes and very tiny hexagonal crystals of ice start floating in the air. When the bright light of the moon hits these ice crystals, it gets reflected and bent. Due to this bending of light, its reflection or 'halo' is formed around the real moon, due to which the onlookers get the illusion of having many moons together.
First people understood the wonders of AI
When this video first surfaced online, social media users refused to believe it. Many commented, calling it fake, edited, or created with artificial intelligence (AI). People believed the illusion was created using technology. However, after astronomers and experts explained the true scientific reason behind this phenomenon, people's confusion was dispelled. Now, this video is going viral around the world as a sample of nature's amazing craftsmanship.
