Foz do Iguaçu (The Uttam Hindu): Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has issued a stern warning against any armed military intervention in Venezuela. The president warned that any use of armed force against Venezuela would have devastating consequences for the entire region.

Speaking at the 67th Mercosur and Allied Summit on Saturday, President Lula spoke about the military pressure being exerted by the United States on Venezuela. He said that the US threats, naval blockade, and military presence in the Caribbean nation of Venezuela are extremely worrying. According to the news agency Xinhua, Lula described this as a military intervention by an external regional power, which has shocked and troubled all of Latin America.

Lula da Silva stated clearly that peace and prosperity are the only true path for South America. The limits of international law are being tested. Armed intervention in Venezuela would be a humanitarian disaster for the entire continent and set a dangerous example for the world.

The Brazilian president also revealed that he recently spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump, who told him that dialogue and compromise are more effective and less harmful than military confrontation.

It is noteworthy that the Trump administration has completely halted oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela. Furthermore, the US has designated the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as a foreign terrorist organization. The US President also stated in a later interview that the United States would continue to seize additional oil tankers.

Several Latin American countries and regional organizations have opposed these US moves, calling for dialogue and demanding that the United Nations and the international community intervene to find a way to peace.
