Mysterious blue dogs spark global curiosity and scientific investigation, check the possible reason
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Shocking news has emerged from the Chernobyl disaster site once again. Dogs roaming the area have suddenly turned blue, raising concerns among locals and scientists. This phenomenon marks the first time in 39 years that such a strange change has been recorded on such a large scale in animals.
Chernobyl's 'Blue Dogs' remain a mystery
In a video that went viral on social media, a blue color is clearly visible on the fur of several dogs. Some dogs had a slight blue shade on their body, while one dog appeared completely blue. Dogs of Chernobyl, the organization that takes care of these dogs and has been working with Clean Futures Fund since 2017, wrote, "Until last week, they were all normal color. Suddenly, their fur has turned blue. We are trying to catch them to understand why this change happened."
According to reports, the group cares for approximately 700 dogs living in a restricted area of approximately 18 square miles. They are the next generation of animals left behind in the 1986 nuclear disaster.
Experts suspect chemical exposure
Scientists say the possibility of the dogs coming into contact with chemicals or industrial waste cannot be ruled out. However, no concrete conclusions have been reached yet. Investigative teams are testing DNA and fur samples to determine whether the changes are the result of radiation, a chemical reaction, or a natural mutation.
After videos of the "Blue Dogs of Chernobyl" went viral, some people called them terrifying, while others hailed them as a "miracle of nature." Animal rights activists have called on local authorities to intensify chemical testing to ensure the animals' safety.
The Chernobyl Disaster—The Scars Still Remain
On April 26, 1986, reactor number 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded, releasing millions of tons of radioactive material into the atmosphere. This was one of the worst nuclear accidents in human history. The area was subsequently declared an "Exclusion Zone," where the effects of radiation persist to this day. Now, the mysterious incident involving these blue dogs has once again reminded us that nature continues to reveal its unknown secrets on the land of Chernobyl.
