‘Not talks, but attack’, Iranian youth appeals to Trump before suicide, video goes viral
Tehran/Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, a highly sensitive and disturbing incident has emerged from Iran. According to media reports, an Iranian youth died by suicide shortly after sharing a video message on social media. In the video, he appealed to former US President Donald Trump to avoid any kind of agreement with Iran’s religious leadership.
Iranian media identified the youth as Pouria Hamidi, a resident of the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr. In the approximately 10 minutes and 44 seconds long video, Hamidi attempted to draw international attention to protests held in Iran in recent years and the alleged actions taken against protesters.
Emotional video posted on YouTube
Hamidi uploaded the video on February 5 to his YouTube channel ‘PoorY X’. In the video, he said, “If you are watching this, it is possible that I am no longer in this world.” He claimed that thousands of people lost their lives during protests in Iran and that these incidents were largely ignored globally. In the video caption, he wrote, “This is my sacrifice—please help free my country.”
Appeal against agreement with US leadership
In the English-language video, Hamidi directly appealed to the US leadership, stating that any agreement with the government led by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be an injustice to those who were killed during protests. He said Iranian citizens protested with hopes of international support, but their situation only worsened. Hamidi also stated that the Iranian people could not fight the current system alone and needed external support.
Support for Reza Pahlavi
In the video, Hamidi expressed support for exiled Iranian figure Reza Pahlavi, describing him as a suitable option for a possible interim arrangement. He also spoke about the despair among Iranian youth, uncertainty about the future, and growing mental pressure.
Death reported after video release
According to reports by Iran International and other media outlets, Hamidi died after sharing the video. However, detailed official information regarding the circumstances of his death has not yet been released.
Crackdown after protests
Hamidi’s death has surfaced at a time when Iranian authorities have intensified action following recent protests. Reports suggest that thousands of people have been arrested. In recent days, the extension of the sentence of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi and the arrest of the son of senior dissident leader Mehdi Karroubi have increased international concern. These protests are considered the most widespread in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
