Beijing/New York (The Uttam Hindu): The US has claimed that China conducted covert nuclear explosive tests using special technology to reduce the effectiveness of seismic monitoring systems. According to US officials, these tests were conducted after the India-China clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020.

US Deputy Secretary of State Thomas G. DiNanno stated that China conducted a nuclear explosive test on June 22, 2020, exactly one week after the Galwan clash. It is worth noting that 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the clash on June 15, 2020, while more than 30 Chinese soldiers were reported killed.

America makes shocking claim: 'China conducted nuclear test after Galwan clash' : In a post on the social media platform X, Dinano said that China had prepared for nuclear tests with a fixed yield of hundreds of tons and used 'decoupling' technology to hide these activities from the world's eyes. This technology weakens seismic monitoring systems and makes nuclear explosions difficult to detect. He claimed that China conducted a similar nuclear test on June 22, 2020.

The US official said that the current global security situation requires a new strategic framework that addresses current threats, not those of the past. He also highlighted China's alleged nuclear tests and the risks they pose.

Referring to the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), DiNanno said that the treaty was signed in 2010 and that the limitations on warheads and launchers imposed under it will no longer be effective in 2026. He said that a nuclear power is expanding its weapons stockpile at an unprecedented scale and speed and continues to develop large-scale nuclear systems outside the terms of New START. DiNanno further said that almost all of the US's deployed nuclear capabilities were covered by New START, while only a small portion of Russia's vast nuclear stockpile was covered by the treaty. None of China's nuclear weapons were covered by the New START agreement.
