Jakarta (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident took place in Indonesia on Sunday, where a passenger ship carrying more than 280 passengers caught fire. To save their lives, panicked passengers jumped straight into the sea from the burning ship. Videos of this horrifying scene are now going viral on social media.
The accident happened near Talis Island in North Sulawesi, when a ship named KM Barcelona VA suddenly caught fire. There were more than 280 people on board, including children. In the viral footage, the ship is completely engulfed in flames and thick black smoke is seen rising from it. Panicked people are seen screaming for help and jumping into the sea to save their lives.
It can be seen in the video that many passengers were wearing life safety jackets, but many people jumped into the sea in panic without jackets. At the time of the accident, many fishing boats passing by acted as angels. These fishermen immediately sprang into action and pulled many people out of the water safely and put them on their boats and took them to the shore.
Indonesian search and rescue teams have launched a massive rescue operation. At present, the cause of the fire is not known and officials have not confirmed any casualties.
