Trump Gives Green Light to TikTok Deal, US Control Confirmed
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order approving TikTok's agreement to operate in the US. While signing the order at the White House on Thursday, Trump said he had a very good conversation with President Xi and that he had given his approval for the deal.
According to the executive order, TikTok's US app will be operated by "a new joint venture established in the United States." According to the US government order, TikTok's US app will now be operated by a new US company. This company will be majority owned and controlled by the American people. It will not be controlled by any foreign enemy country.
Oracle, Silver Lake, and several other American investors will hold a majority stake in the new company. It also stated that TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, will hold less than a 20 percent stake in the entity. US Vice President JD Vance announced that TikTok will be valued at $14 billion.
He said, "We wanted to allow TikTok to operate, but also ensure that the data privacy of American citizens is protected in accordance with the law. This agreement will allow Americans to use TikTok with greater confidence, knowing their data will be secure and will not be used as a propaganda tool."
Vance also emphasized that American investors will retain control of TikTok's algorithms. He said the deal ensures that an American company and American investors will truly control the algorithms. "We want to ensure that our people and our investors make decisions in the best interest of their businesses, not in the best interest of another government's propaganda machinery."
