Trump health update amid Iran war, president to hold press conference
White House dismisses rumors about Donald Trump’s health, confirms President will hold a press conference amid rising Iran–US tensions.
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Amid the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, speculation regarding the health of US President Donald Trump surfaced on Sunday evening, triggering widespread discussion. However, the White House has now issued a clarification, confirming that the President is well and will address the media soon.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on social media platform X that, due to media demand, President Trump will hold a press conference on April 6 at 1 PM (local time) in the White House briefing room.
Earlier, reports had emerged suggesting that Trump might skip a major annual meeting of American conservatives, leading to speculation about his health. However, the White House dismissed rumors circulating on social media claiming that the President had been hospitalized.
These claims gained traction after the White House declared a “photo lid” at 11 AM (ET) on Saturday, a term used in diplomatic and administrative contexts to indicate that no further public events are scheduled for the day.
Some viral posts alleged that Trump had been taken to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, further fueled by an old motorcade video. Fact-checks later revealed that the video was from 2024, when Trump had been discharged from a hospital in Pennsylvania following a shooting incident.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung rejected all such claims, stating that the President’s schedule remains normal. “There has never been a President who works harder than Trump. Even this Easter weekend, he has been continuously working from the White House and the Oval Office,” he posted.
Additionally, a journalist reporting from Walter Reed confirmed that there was no sign of “Marine One,” no motorcade activity, and roads remained open. Emma Nicholson of CBS News also noted that a Marine sentry was stationed at the West Wing entrance, indicating the President’s presence inside.
This is not the first time that misinformation regarding a US President’s health has spread rapidly on digital platforms, highlighting the growing challenge of verifying information in the age of social media.
