Trump’s 20-Point Gaza Peace Plan Sparks Outrage: Hamas Rejects Core Terms

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former US President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled 20-point Gaza Peace Plan — designed to end the long-running Israel-Hamas conflict — has sparked intense controversy across the Middle East. While several nations have welcomed the initiative as a potential path toward regional stability, Hamas has fiercely opposed multiple provisions, calling them “unrealistic” and “biased in favour of Israel.”

The plan, jointly discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, seeks to lay down a framework for ceasefire, hostage exchange, demilitarization of Gaza, and establishment of a new administrative setup. However, several of its clauses have become flashpoints between Washington and Hamas leadership.

Main Provisions of Trump’s 20-Point Peace Proposal

The peace blueprint reportedly includes a series of steps to ensure a gradual de-escalation in Gaza and re-establish governance mechanisms. Among the 20 points are:

Immediate and total ceasefire by both Israel and Hamas.

Release of all Israeli hostages within 72 hours of agreement.

Exchange of Palestinian prisoners, including those serving long sentences.

Israeli troop withdrawal from populated areas of Gaza after hostages’ release.

Formation of a non-political “Technocratic Committee” to govern Gaza temporarily.

No forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or West Bank.

Prohibition of Israeli annexation of Gaza territories.

Disarmament of Hamas and dismantling of its military infrastructure.

Deployment of an international security force, including troops from friendly Arab nations.

Establishment of a “Board of Peace” — a global body to oversee Gaza’s rehabilitation, reportedly including international figures such as Tony Blair.

11–20. Remaining points cover humanitarian corridors, reconstruction funding, free movement of goods, rebuilding of hospitals and schools, transparent aid monitoring, and gradual steps toward a future Palestinian state once conditions stabilize.

Why Hamas Is Furious

While Hamas initially welcomed the concept of a comprehensive ceasefire, it quickly denounced key components of Trump’s plan, arguing that they undermine Palestinian sovereignty and resistance rights.

A senior Hamas official said the group “rejects any peace mechanism that strips Palestinians of their legitimate right to self-defense or allows foreign powers to govern Gaza.”
