Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): Pakistan is facing fresh pressure from the UAE, which has asked it to repay a $2 billion loan by April 17 amid rising Middle East tensions.
The move comes as Pakistan attempts to play a peacemaker role in the Iran conflict, a stance reportedly not supported by the UAE which backs tough action against Tehran.
The loan, given in 2018, has already seen its interest rate increased adding to Pakistan’s financial strain. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s mediation efforts have failed with Russia now stepping in to push for a possible peace deal.
