Unusual election! North Korea’s Kim Jong Un party wins all 687 seats, secures 99.93% votes
Kim Jong Un’s party won all 687 seats in North Korea’s 2026 elections with 99.93% votes, further strengthening his control over the country’s political system.
Pyongyang (The Uttam Hindu): In North Korea’s 2026 parliamentary elections, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s grip on power appears stronger than ever. According to state media, the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea and its allies secured 99.93 percent of the votes, winning all seats in the parliament. The overall voter turnout was reported at 99.99 percent.
The elections, held on March 15, were conducted to select representatives for the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly. The ruling alliance won all 687 seats, making the outcome completely one-sided. The first session of the new parliament is expected to be held soon in Pyongyang, where key leadership roles and possible constitutional changes may be discussed.
One notable aspect of the election is that nearly 70 percent of the representatives have been replaced. Experts see this as a strategy by Kim Jong Un to further consolidate his control.
The new parliament includes his sister Kim Yo-jong and Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui. Close aide Jo Yong-won is also expected to receive an important role in the leadership setup.
Although official figures mention that 0.07 percent votes were cast against, the elections are widely seen internationally as a formal process with little or no real competition.
