US-Iran ceasefire puts Pakistan in spotlight: JD Vance clarifies Lebanon's role
Pakistan's role in brokering the US-Iran ceasefire has come under scrutiny, with JD Vance stating that Lebanon isn't part of the agreement, contradicting Pakistan's claims
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A new clarity has emerged regarding the ceasefire reached amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. JD Vance has clearly stated that there is no question of including Lebanon in these talks.
Speaking to the media before leaving Hungary, Vance dismissed speculation that Lebanon was included in the peace proposal, clarifying that the US had never made any such promise or indication.
'Focus only on Iran and allies'
Vance said the primary objective of the ceasefire was to focus only on Iran and US allies—such as Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Gulf Arab countries. He reiterated, "We never said this would include Lebanon."
Vance 's statement has raised questions about Shehbaz Sharif's claim that Lebanon was also part of the peace agreement. Previously, Donald Trump and Netanyahu have also dismissed such claims.
A report in the international newspaper Financial Times claims that the US pushed Pakistan into the temporary ceasefire process with Iran. This suggests that Pakistan's role was part of US strategy rather than as an independent mediator.
Debate over Pakistan's diplomatic claims has intensified following the latest developments. Experts believe these developments could impact Pakistan's standing and credibility on the international stage.
