New York (The Uttam Hindu): American newspaper New York Times (NYT) has claimed in a sensational report that in 2019, the US Navy's most deadly commandos carried out a top-secret operation in North Korea. This mission was to spy on dictator Kim Jong Un, but due to a fatal mistake of the commandos, it failed and three innocent civilians died.

The New York Times reported on Friday that the purpose of this mission was to install an electronic device in North Korea, so that American intelligence agencies could track Kim Jong Un's communications and listen to his every word.

According to the report, Navy SEAL commandos had prepared for months for this extremely risky mission. These commandos were part of the same elite unit that killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011. As per the plan, 8 SEAL commandos entered North Korea's maritime area via a nuclear submarine. From there, they reached close to the coast in two mini-submarines and then swam to the shore. Their job was to install the communication device by deceiving the North Korean Border Force.

The American commandos thought they were alone on the shore, but then they saw a small boat nearby. Some people in the boat were using torch light and one of them jumped into the water. The commandos felt that their secret mission was in danger and their identity could be revealed. After this, the senior commando on the shore started firing indiscriminately on the boat and the rest of the commandos also supported him.

When the firing stopped and the commandos reached the boat, they were shocked. There were bodies of three people on the boat, but they were neither carrying any weapons nor were they wearing any uniform. According to the report, they were civilians who were diving in the sea to search for seafood and shells.

To hide their mistake, the American commandos pierced the lungs of the three dead people with a knife so that their bodies would not swell and sink in the sea. After this, the mission was immediately stopped and all the Navy SEAL commandos returned to their submarine.

This operation took place in 2019 when nuclear talks were going on between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un. However, when reporters asked Trump about this report on Friday, he said, "I don't know anything about it. I am hearing this for the first time."

The White House and the US Defense Ministry (Pentagon) have also refused to comment on this report. The New York Times says that the Trump administration did not even inform key members of Congress about this mission, which may be a violation of federal law.
